Adding flowers to your mailbox is a simple but beautiful accent to any yard. It definitely will make you eye candy of the neighborhood and it super easy to start. You can either add a bed around your mailbox or our favorite is to add trailing flowers to climb the box itself. As well, you can do both!
Non Climbing Mailbox Garden
Adding flowers around the bed is as simple as creating any other flower bed to your yard. Keep in mind the amount of light, season, and watering needs when choosing flowers. Mark off your area and remove all grass and weeds. You can go with low riding plants that cover the ground like ivy or bushier plants such as California poppy.
Climbing Mailbox Garden
First you want to decide what type of climbing plant you would like to add. Take in consideration of the light and watering situations. Find climbing perennials that can acclimate to the direct sun or shade based on where your mailbox is located.
Second, depending on what type of mailbox you have, create a trellis or pathway for your plants to follow. For round brick mailboxes, shape fence wire over the mailbox so you plant can “climb” around the mailbox. This also make controlling the plant easier as well. Single stand along mailboxes only require wrapping fence wire around the base once so the plant may climb.
