There are multiple reasons why many of us cannot grow our food outdoors. I get it. I usually grow an abundant garden outdoors but with the addition of a new baby, heat wave after heat wave in Florida, all of my crops have gone to crisp.
This is why I was super thrill and overjoyed when I found Coco and Seed. Its a black and women owned home goods company that has amazing gardening kits fit for indoor gardening. These kits are affordable, easy to assemble, and did I say affordable. The only thing you’ll need is mason jars and some free time and you’ll have a mini indoor gardening growing in no time.
Coco and Seed offers two variations of gardening kits: soil and without soil (hydroponics), both methods are healthy and fun to try. Here is my progress and tips with soil:
Day 1: Follow the directions provided. Coco and Seed make it super easy to assemble. It’s recommended that you use an amber colored jar or paint your jar to protect roots. Tip: I like to add a ziplock bag over my seeds/seedlings to create a greenhouse effect. seedlings love it and it helps me not to overwater my seeds. I will literally add a drop of water and leave the bag over the seeds until the seedlings out grow the bag.
Day 3: Growth! Back to under the bag you go and I keep it in a sunny window. You can also grow it under a grow light. It will prevent leggy seedlings growing toward the window. Be sure to rotate your seedlings daily if you are not using a grow light.
Week 1: We have seedlings developing their “true leaves” I’ll update this post as my basil grows!
