7 Autumn House Plants That Can Survive Colder Weather

Contrary to what many believe, finding house plants for fall are not hard and are a great way add color and life to any living space.  In addition to these easy to care for houseplants, here are 7 house plants that are perfect house plants for fall and any season.

Sansevieria

These variety of green foliage are cold tolerant making them the best plants for homes who don’t like to crank up their heat in the winter. Although they can handle temperature range from 50-90 degrees,  they prefer temperatures of 70-90 degrees.

 

Succulents

These puffy beauties can withstand high and low temperatures as long as they receive proper lighting.

 

English Ivy

This evergreen vine only needs moderate exposure to sunlight, although it does have a preference for moist soil and cooler room temperatures. Be aware that English Ivy is toxic to pets.

 

Philodendron

Philodendron is a large family of plants that are characterized by a variety of large leaves perfect warm indoors. Because it’s such a large and flexible family, it can stand temperatures ranging from 55 to 90 degrees.

 

Rope Hoya Plant

In spring through fall, the wax plant likes to be watered regularly.  In wintertime, water sparingly to decrease the chance of root rot. Once established, the plant will tolerate some drought and don’t require a lot of light and can last in lower temperatures.

 

Peace Lily

This beauty can stand temperatures right above 32 degrees. This hardy plant grows in low light, blooms year around, and requires evenly moist soil.

Kaffir Lily

Kaffir lily usually blooms in winter with clusters of up to 20 reddish orange or yellow tubular flowers. It only blooms only when it has been exposed to cool, dry conditions, so give it lower temperatures in winter and keep it on the dry side. With its deep green straplike leaves, the plant is attractive even when not in bloom.
