Fall typically has a love – hate relationship with gardeners. We love how cooler weather decrease the appearance of pests, the new colored leaves, BUT we do not love to see our perennials and plants go into dormancy and stop producing those blooms and scented leaves we love so much. During colder times, plants go dormant, some die, and other cesist producing any leaves at all. In order to prevent your plants from dying off with the summer weather, you typically have to go through a few tedious steps which is called overwintering your plants. This year I decided to grow plants that require little to no care during colder weather and definitely no overwintering herbs. Here are a few herbs you may want to try that can definitely to survive the winter without your help.
Sage
Sage requires a nice trim and it’s good to go for the winter. Be careful not to trim too close to the ground and say no to pruning during cold temperatures. Insulate soil with mulch or bark to make sure the roots don’t freeze and die.
